For those looking to add a Spa & Hot Tub for private use - the installation itself is a pretty simple set up. You need to make sure that you have access to the backyard; a solid, level foundation to set the spa or hot tub, electricity and a of course, a garden hose that is near by so you can fill it up when hook-up is completed.
For most spa & hot tub hook-ups and installations, a building permit is required when your hot tub depth is greater than 600 mm ( 23.6 inches ). Your town or city may also require a site plan that indicates the proposed location and may additionally request information such as any outlaying fencing and if it comes with lockable covers. Note that fencing is not always required when the hot tub has a lockable cover that can support the weight of an adult.
An electrical permit is required for any wiring associated with the spa & hot tub hook-up & installation. Hot tubs will require either 110V or 220V of electricity. If you have a 110V model then you may be able to simply plug the hot tub into an nearby electrical outlet in the backyard. However, if you have a 220V model, then you will need to work with a certified electrician to hook-up your spa or hot tub. Your electrician will need to ensure there is enough electricity to power the spa or hot tub and safely run the appropriate wires from your electrical panel to the hot tub.
